THE new Ducati Monster S4Rs is the most powerful Monster yet, with 130bhp inside that V-Twin, Testastretta derived motor.
It is a highly tuned engine and, for the Monster range, features a carbon fibre reinforced timing belt, new rocker box cover and a unique sump design, which means the oil pump is constantly immersed in lubricant - good news if you like wheelies and were worried about the oil surging backwards inside the engine.
As "naked" bikes get ever more potent, Ducati were in danger of being outgunned by the competition, but maybe this revamp is enough to tempt some bikers back to the Monster.
Trump cardThe styling is arguably the Monster's trump card, with retro style paintwork, twin exhausts on the right hand side and funky 'Y spoked Marchesini wheels.
Add to that a long list of carbon fibre parts, radial brakes, plus Ohlins suspension and single-sided swingarm and you have all the ingredients of a sportbike, but without the discomfort of being in the 'boy racer riding position all day long.
There is no word on the UK price of the new S4Rs as yet, but it is probably going to be about £8,000.
