HERE'S some welcome news from Yamaha UK - test riders are wanted to evaluate the 2006 XT660R adventure motorbike.
If you're looking for a new motorcycle, especially an all-rounder in the 500cc-600cc class, the choice is confusing and the chances of getting a demo ride often remote.
But Yamaha UK are looking for riders to approach their dealer network and sample the XT660R adventure model, which has a punchy single-cylinder engine, nimble handling and good fuel economy.
Comfortable
I tested the bike last summer and was very impressed at how comfortable and easy to ride the XT660R was - you could also tour long-distance on the Yamaha, after fitting some luggage carriers and other accessories. Interested readers should call Yamaha UK on 01932 358121 or visit www.yamaha-motor.co.uk to locate their local participating dealer.
They will then be sent an evaluation form to take to their dealer. The first 50 riders who test and send back a completed evaluation form will be sent a Yamaha Enduro waistbag. Closing date is May 31.
Dealers
Another good way of testing bikes is to look out for local bike dealers holding open weekends, backed by manufacturers.
Typically, you'll need both parts of your driving licence, be at least 21 years old and have one year's biking experience to get a demo ride on much above 125cc class motorcycles.
As Fred Pontin used to say, book early!
