Although most bikes and scooters made in mainland China are 50cc-125cc-sized machines, that is all set to change. I think that, within five years, China will produce bigger bikes to rival many established brands.
So, take a look at the CF Moto 250 T5, which features an automatic rev 'n' go-type gearbox, two disc brakes, built-in CD/radio with MP3 connection, plus fully enclosed bodywork for that Judge Dredd futuristic look. I have never seen anything like it in 30 years riding bikes and I admire the CF Moto team for designing something that causes comment - whether good or bad.
It is a conventional scoot to ride, despite its bizarre styling. The CF 250 zips off the line quickly and soon flicks into top gear, happy to cruise along at 50 to 60mph.
I reckon it would probably do about 70mph flat out, but the 250 T5 is ideal for urban commuters who want the occasional faster ride.
Build quality looked better than the average Chinese motorbike, but there were some rust patches visible on the exhaust after 5000kms of use by importers, Eco Scooters of Measham, Derbyshire. The bike is expected here in April and I would guess that the price will be about £3,300 on the road.
