But what's this here? The press release says something about this being the Subaru spec.B saloon with a new THREE-litre engine. Maybe there's more to this car than meets the eye.
WHAT'S NEW? Well beside the new 245bhp 3.0-litre engine, which also sits under the bonnet of the new Subaru Tribeca soft-roader, Legacy has been given an inside and out facelift for 2007. Another innovation is the new "three engines in one" SI-Drive, a feature which allows the driver access to select either intelligent, sport or sport-sharp driving styles.
WHAT ARE THE OPTIONS? The range starts at £17,995 on the road for the 165bhp Legacy 2.0R saloon and tops out in the automatic version of the 3.0Rn auto model, which will set you back around £30,000 after the inclusion of sat nav. You can also choose between the saloon or Outback, which is Subarubian for estate.
WHAT'S IT FOR? For pretending to be a kindly old man on the way to church when in fact you are the speeding son of Satan himself.
WHAT'S IT LIKE TO DRIVE? Very impressive. Subaru's tradition of building all-wheel-drive cars mean that the new Legacy handles the power very well. It is also about as practical and comfortable a car as you'd expect to find. However, I didn't find the SI-Drive particularly easy to use. Switching from one setting to the next was a bit of a pain.
WHAT ELSE DO I NEED TO KNOW? That just as WWII airmen were trained to differentiate German aircraft from their allied counterparts, policemen are trained to identify bland and boring saloons from the ones with an innocuous exterior and a heart of molten metal
WHAT'D MAKE YOU BUY ONE? A devious personality.
