This power pack produces 265bhp, yet has 80 per cent lower carbon dioxide emissions compared with the same engine running purely on petrol.
This engine falls in line with the steadily growing demand for renewable bio-ethanol.
There are already 23 plants producing ethanol in Europe, a figure that is expected to rise to just over 60 by 2008.
