Daihatsu describe their new Materia as funky but I’d say funny is a more apt description.
Even so, the super-mini has earned itself a cult following in Japan and the United States where motorists simply can’t get enough of them.
It arrives here in July with an on-the-road price starting at £10,995.
Power will be provided by a 1.5 litre petrol engine boasting 46.3 mpg on the extra urban cycle in manual form (45.6 mpg automatic) and a top speed of in excess of 100mph.
That should mean plenty of oomph available to get away from all those people laughing at you.
