22/ 2/2002

A MAJOR pharmaceuticals company is investing almost £5m in its factory on Tameside.

FTSE-listed Celltech is ploughing the cash into its plant at Bardsley Vale, Ashton-under-Lyne, to help meet increased demand.

The firm, which operates the site as Celltech Manufacturing Services, specialises in contract orders for tablets and medicines.

It produces more than one billion tablets each year.

Ashton site director Bob Morgan said the investment will involve expanding and upgrading its sterile production capabilities to meet increasingly stringent regulatory requirements.
