| ELIZABETH GASKELL lived in Manchester and documented the lives
of the working classes. Novels include 'Mary Barton', 'North and South',
and 'Cranford'. She lived from 1810 to 1865. EWM says: I would love to have met and asked Mrs Gaskell about her life in Manchester. The next best thing we can do is to read her novels. |

| STEPHEN GIBBONS is a film director who has lived in Tameside,
Saddleworth and Oldham. Now based in London he continues to develop film
projects including his controversial coming-of-age feature film 'Chicanery
Moon'. EWM says: I did the stills photography for his low budget short film 'Drug Abuse'. Watch out for 'Chicanery Moon' in the cinemas before long. |

| RACHEL GILSON is a singer who I once saw perform at Night
and Day on Canal Street. She sang in a jazzy r'n'b style. EWM says: I know very little about her, but her singing was excellent. |

| ANDREW GWYNNE is a local councillor for Denton West in the
Metropolitan Borough of Tameside. He has a degree in Politics and Contemporary
History from the University of Salford and has studied Business and Finance. EWM says: Andrew was kind enough to show me round Denton for my EWM feature. He knows a lot about the area and is very dedicated to it. |

character 'Spider' of Coronation Street before leaving to pursue other
career goals. Martin
is originally from Acton, West London, but moved to Manchester when he
joined 'The Street'. |

| SUSAN JESSON-WARD grew up in Moston Manchester but her home
is now the Sultanate of Oman where she works as a consultant for the Sultan
of Oman's Royal Stables, and other clients. EWM says: I've only met Susan via e-mail - see my 1998 interview with her. |

| COUNCILLOR PAT KARNEY was chairman of Manchester City Council's
City Centre Committee and played a key role in the reconstruction of the
city centre after the bomb in 1996. He was born in Dublin but has lived
in Manchester most of his life. EWM says: See my 1998 interview with him. |

COUNCILLOR JIM KING was Mayor of the City of Salford from 2001 to 2002.
He opened the Lowry Galleria in autumn 2001 and instigated the highly
successful Mayor's Award Scheme. |

| RAY KING is pictured here with his wife at the opening of
the Hardrock Cafe Manchester in 2000. A staff journalist with the Manchester
Evening News he writes articles on local and national issues as well as
restaurant reviews. EWM says: Ray is a great conversationalist, and his articles are often very outspoken. |

COUNCILLOR RICHARD LEESE is the public face of Manchester City Council,
and makes regular media apperances. An ex-teacher and youth worker and
has been a councillor since 1984, and Leader of the Council since 1996.
He's originally from Mansfield and lives in Crumpsall. |

| BERNE LENG is an Eyewitness in Manchester reader who has contributed
some fascinating material and photographs to this website. He used to be
a projectionist at the Gaumont Oxford St, and is an expert in the history

| YVETTE LIVESEY is co-founder of the In The City music convention,
with partner Tony Wilson, and plays a prominent role in the city. EWM says: With her striking looks and professional experience as a leading fashion model, Yvette was a pleasure to photograph. When I met her she was friendly, welcoming and quite outspoken. See my 1998 interview. |
