The new pedestrian footbridge replaces an underpass, the remains of which can still be seen. The entrance has been blocked off with concrete blocks but is still visible. The new bridge is a vast improvement on the tunnels, once the only direct pedestrian link between the city centre and the infamous Hulme Crescents which were demolished in the 1990's.
