The Mancunian Way used state of the art construction techniques
when it was completed in 1967. The following year it was awarded the Concrete
Society Award, as this plaque on the east side of Upper Brook Street commemorates.
Today many people may find the award ironic, considering the reputation
of concrete as a building material, but the Concrete Society is still
active and will find much to interest them in Manchester.
