Tree-covered Alderley Edge rises up above the Cheshire plain some 16 miles (24 km) south of Manchester. It's difficult to imagine but 250 years ago it had no trees. More than just a hill, it is regarded by many as a place of special, almost mystlcal significance. Alderley Edge features in the novels of Alan Garner who lives not far from here.
