We are looking from the cemetery in Dukinfield, Cheshire across the Tame valley into Ashton-under-Lyne in Lancashire, with Oldham in the distance. In the foreground is Albion United Reformed Church Ashton, and on the hilltop about four miles (7 km) from our viewpoint, St Thomas church, Werneth, Oldham. The towns of Dukinfield and Ashton have since 1974 been part of the Metropolitan Borough of Tameside.
