We are in the hillside churchyard of St Mary's, Prestwich, 4 miles (6.5 km) north of Manchester. The John Brooks Memorial commemorates the man who campaigned alongside John Bright and Richard Cobden for the abolition of the Corn Laws. The monument was erected two years after his death in 1849 by members of the Anti-Corn Law League.
