The football club that eventually became
Manchester City was founded in this pub on Hyde Road Ardwick. For
many years it stood as pictured here, empty and boarded up. When I
took this photo in 2002 I didn't realise the significance of the
building. A few months later, despite the efforts of a lone
campaigner, what remained of the pub was torn down. The site is
currently empty. MCFC's original ground was a two minute walk from here,
off Hyde Road, and their new home in Eastlands is only 10 minutes away
by car.
