The football club that eventually became Manchester City was founded in this pub on Hyde Road Ardwick.  For many years it stood as pictured here, empty and boarded up.  When I took this photo in 2002 I didn't realise the significance of the building.  A few months later, despite the efforts of a lone campaigner, what remained of the pub was torn down. The site is currently empty. MCFC's original ground was a two minute walk from here, off Hyde Road, and their new home in Eastlands is only 10 minutes away by car.
