The enlarged panoramic view from the condemned
Mathematics tower provides us with a spectacular panorama of Manchester
city centre in early 2005. On the far left, beside GMEX (former
Central Station) is the new tower which will be one of the tallest in
the UK. The cranes beyond GMEX belong to the Spinningfields site between
Deansgate and the Irwell. In the middle with the red sign is the Palace
Hotel (formerly Refuge) tower and beyond, the Town Hall clock tower,
tallest structure in Manchester until the high rise office buildings on
the right appeared in the 1960s. The story of the latest
incarnation of Manchester is only just beginning. Keep visiting
Eyewitness in Manchester to see how things progress.
