The view along the Irwell from Victoria Bridge shows a remarkable mix of old, recent and futuristic.  Blackfriars Bridge dates from the 19th century and links Manchester to the left with Salford to the right. On the Salford side is the striking 'Edge' residential building with its sloping roof. Further down the river on the Manchester side are the newly constructed buildings in the Spinningfields development area.
