In March 2000 this corner tower
is grimy and decrepit, windows smashed and falling out of their frames.
The stonework is still blackened by smoke. The interior of the building
is also in a precarious state. It will require enormous investment and
many man-hours to restore these buildings. I'd love to live in the room
at the top and enjoy the views over Manchester in four directions.
In May 2005 work is well advanced on the reconstruction and renovation
of the building. A crane has been set up next to the tower. The
brickwork and stone have been cleaned and restored and new (temporary)
windows inserted. Soon new residents will be enjoying the views from
these windows, but I wonder who is going to be enjoying the four-way
views from the tower?
