This medieval hall has been restored to display the timberwork inside, with a modern-style exterior glass canopy. Personally, I'd prefer it to have been restored to its original state. Click here to read the plaque.

1252: Historic station facade, London Rd Manchester city centre 5 Sep 99

Camera: Agfa E-Photo 1280 (digital)
Lens: 38 - 105mm mm (medium zoom))
Multi-viewpoint composite of 8 pictures.
This picture has a similar perspective to an architectural drawing. I took eight pictures at points along the facade and joined them together in Photoshop

This facade is all that remains of the 19th century station buildings. Thankfully the facade has been retained, and is currently unused. I think that's how I'd like it to stay.

Welcome to the brave new world of New Millennium Manchester. The building on the right is Marks & Spencers, nearing completion. A new building, Shambles West is to be built on the left. The two cylindrical objects are temporary air shafts.

Mersey Square seen from Wellington Road South. The Shopping Centre is on the left hidden by the trees, which in my opinion, ruin Mersey Square, making it seem small and claustrophobic.

Thank goodness it's still possible to take photos like this. At first sight, this could be the 1930's or older, but modern elements are visible on closer inspection.

I can't remember where I took this photo. I thought it was Whitelands Rd Ashton, but I visited recently and it's not there. Can anyone help? E-mail aidan@anamaria.u-net.com.

I was attracted by the two classic cars. The Ford Consul (1963 or earlier) has been given a 1969 number plate and has been repainted. Further along is a Rover P90 and beyond that, a Hillman Avenger.

Here we are looking across the Bridgewater Canal in Castlefield towards Barca Bar. The birds centre right are Canada geese. Compare this picture with my earlier Castlefield panorama, taken in 1997 with the Horizont panoramic camera.
