Image number 603 Cheetham Hill Road,
Red Bank, River Irk and Manchester Victoria railway line 6 November
1998 ©Aidan O'Rourke
The Red Bank area was once
the site of some of the worst slum dwellings in the city. They were
pulled down in the 1930's. Centre right, we see the River Irk,
which joins the Irwell a quarter of a mile further on. To the far right
is a train leaving Victoria Station - and on the far left is Cheetham
Hill Road.
This unpromising-looking location is to be the site of a new shopping
complex called "The Gateway".
