738: Hartshead Pike at dusk

This hill overlooking Ashton and Oldham has been a prominent landmark for centuries. The monument has been reconstructed several times over the years. In the 1970's Hartshead was considered as a name for the new metropolitan borough, but Tameside was eventually chosen.

This point is eight miles east north east of Manchester city centre.
