READER MESSAGES MID MARCH 1999 Date: Tue, 16 Mar 1999 10:22:23 +1200 Denys McEneaney Yes, is the short answer to that question. I've searched the database on my desktop, and come up with this selection.. The thing is, you ought to have been able to do this on the website - this is the problem I'm currently grappling with - an effective way for people to find pictures on the theme they're interested in. Ideally, I'd like a page with thumbnails to be generated similar to the one I've done by hand - I need a cgi script which can do this - if anyone has any comments or suggestions, I'd be pleased to hear from them! In the meantime, thanks for contacting!
Yes I recognised some of the places like Cross Lane. My mum grew up on the Langworthy Estate which is now St James Park and my dad in Irlam 'o heights down Duchy Bank! Great! From: John.Fell@HEALTH.GOV.AU Regards John.Fell Yes, there will be soon. Thanks very much for contacting and letting me know - Any changes or improvements I make are generally based on peoples responses, so please contact if you have any suggestions for changes or improvements.
What an excellent site. I emigrated from Manchester to Perth WA 4 years ago and am sure I will be frequenting the site on a regular basis Well Done! Karen Moran Perth, Western Australia
I was born in Wythenshawe, opposite Crossacres School (the nicer part of Wythenshawe, bordering Gatley), then moved to Heald Green in Cheadle when I got married. I worked in the City, firstly in the Royal Exchange building, and then on George Street, near China Town. I haven't seen any photos of the City since any the reconstruction work following the bomb. Well, here are two of the refurbished Royal Exchange. They've done a wonderful job restoring it. Thanks again and please keep visiting.
One thing to keep in mind is that my interest counts for more than
one book. I have several friends who would love this book and I would
purchase more than one to give as gifts. David Thanks very much for your support. If anyone else would like to buy it, please e-mail me - personal messages are very good to show potential publishers, agents etc..
Elizabeth in Texas E-mail: eperiman@1starnet.com Can I suggest the main library in Preston? I don't think there's much chance of finding one online. Another possibility would be to find a second hand bookshop online. I found a superb original map of Manchester in the 1830's in a bookshop in Eton, price £30. If you could find one with a website, they may be able to sell you one.
Dear Aidan, I couldn't let the 17th. March pass by without wishing you a happy St. Patricks Day. I shall probably indulge myself with a glass or two of Guinness and think of holidays in Ireland, if I can remember them clearly! A couple of weeks ago you had an e mail from Paul Eddlestone living in Washington D.C. telling us about his father's pictures of Manchester. I visited his site and was very surprised to discover that we used to live round the corner from each other in Failsworth and I even have one of his father's pictures on my lounge room wall. We had to come all this way to meet. It's things like this that make "Eyewitness" such a pleasure to visit each week, you never know what you are going to read.
May the road rise up to meet you..........etc Lynda Youel As a special St Patrick's Day one-off exclusive, here' s me receiving my degree at Trinity College Dublin (I went over from Manchester to study German and French there) back in 1981 when the IBM personal computer and the ZX81 were state of the art, and the web was something to do with spiders. I've also included two of my pictures of Dublin, very early precursors of Eyewitness in Manchester. Is there anyone in Ireland reading this? Happy St Patrick's Day. (PS I think it's Céad) Date: Fri, 12 Mar 1999 21:41:20 -0800 To: aidan@anamaria.u-net.com Thanks again, Sheila Thompson (Nee Hall). Only the ones above so far, the left one is Clayton Vale and the right on is the level crossing at Clayton Bridge. Very glad to hear you've found family and friends through the website. I don't know of a phone book online, though the search engines have special search facilities for finding individuals. You can also contact In Touch - many people have found friends & acquaintances that way.
