PLEASE TAKE PICTURE OF INSIDE TURKISH BATHS IN LONGSIGHT. THE GROUP THAT BOUGHT IT OFF THE COUNCIL FOR IP WILL PROBABLY LET YOU.
ALSO THERE WOULD BE A GOOD PICTURE OF THE NEW TENNIS & BASKETBALL COURTS AT THE BACK (FALLOWFIELD END) OF PLATTFIELDS IN THE SUN ON A SUNDAY (OR SATURDAY IF IT IS NICE THEN) THERE IS ALSO A TEENAGE VILLAGE THERE WITH NO TEENAGERS.
ALSO I WOULD LIKE SOME PICTURES OF STREETS AHEAD THIS WEEKEND AND ALSO LONGSIGHT MARKET
I'll try and cover those places soon.

***Here are some from Streets Ahead, added later...***

Pretty cool overview for a first-time visitor to Manchester. I have dabbled with the thought of creating a website/newsletter & pictures as I am a keen photographer. For now though I just do text newsletter to friends and family as I am travelling and I don't have enough stability to invest in scanner, printer etc. (I do carry a laptop in my backpack though - can't bear the thought of e-mail withdrawal.) Would be interested to know what scanner/printer/software you use and how much of your time website maintenance takes. :) Thanks for the good example
I use a Nikon Coolscan 35mm film scanner, Adobe Photoshop and an Epson printer. It takes me a couple of days a week

Wot? No Didsbury?
There are pictures of Didsbury on the website (including the one below)

SCOTT RYAN FROM L.A. YOUR CENTRE WAS OUT OF THIS WORLD LIKE VENUS OR SOMETHING. WELL DONE
S. RYAN LA DRUG SQUAD
If that's a compliment, then thanks
Very good
Thank you
Very Real
That's what I'm aiming for
I find that when I come to this
Yes, go on...!?
Rehan SAQEB/ Vivid, bright, & multi faceted. This exhibition is a true representation of what I know Manchester to be like. Makes one proud of one's local community and area.
Thank you Adrian, I walk away with a smile on my face!!
Thank you very much for your wonderful comments!
12/5/99 Kirsten Bailey Wonderful pics - it's really what we all see every day. How about some of the people though? Particularly our homeless, and the Big Issue vendors who are out there in all that rain? Keep up the good work!
I don't normally take candid close-ups of people as I don't like to invade peoples privacy. If I tell them and ask them to pose, then you lose the naturalness. I can capture buidlings and streets "as they are", but to capture the people in close-up, that's a different matter. However I will make a point of taking pictures of some Big Issue vendors, now you've asked. Here's the Big Issue Office

I come from Zürich (Switzerland) and would be extremely glad to buy pictures as fascinating as yours (and: black/white...). THANKS!
Vielen Dank - Please enquire via my home page,

LATER COMMENTS

Enjoyed guessing where exactly the pictures were taken! Found it a complete pleasure to view them.
Cheers
"nice one" S......
Many thanks

A vivid and impressive collection of images - a refreshing change from the rather dull postcard pictures available. I wil certainly be looking at the website now. Deborah
Postcards, now there's a good idea.... Thanks

After being away from my native Manchester s... ex.... I am 79 years old and would very much like to return to Dear Old Manchester. They say once a Mancunian always a Manchester Lad at Heart.
GOOD OLD REF LIB!!!

(P.S. My mum was one of the first to go into this place before the Last War!!! 1934 ? ish!!! D... Sm...field.
It's never too late to return. Thanks for your comments.

With respect to the "candid" pictures of Mancunians, could you not take your best shot (with a digital camera) and then approach the person concerned, show them the image and request permission to include it on the website (no names of course)? Would not some relish being anyonymous characters in the ongoing drama of Manchester street life (with a global audience)? NK
Some of the people you see on Market St I'd definitely rather not approach! Others... well maybe. But I don't like to draw attention to myself too much. We'll see.
Hi Aidan
Good expo. The photos look better on paper than on a computer screen. Can't wait for the 1000th image. Jon Axtell
Yes, they do - paper and ink are still superior in some ways to phosphorescent dots on a cathode ray tube!
17/5/99
Makes my efforts seem puny, but has given me... ideas for improvement.
Very good.
J O'Brien S.N.A.PS
Don't underestimate your abilities, some of my efforts used to be pretty puny as well. Some still are but I bin them!

17/5/99 THE FOUNTAIN PIC DOES MAKE IT LOOK LIKE PARIS. NICE PHOTOS
John the Scouse
Yes, it's the 19th century influence. Thanks

Have you ever been to Paris? Get real - no comparison
He said "look like" Paris, not "same as". I've been to Paris many times, and Manchester is as interesting a photographic subject as Paris, one of the most photographed cities in the world. Here you don't have the feeling what what you're photographing has already been photographed hundreds of times before.

Final picture No 19 "Bridgewater Canal next to Whitworth St. In fact shows the ROCHDALE CANAL!. The Bridgewater Canal is about half a mile away in Castlefield. Apart from that, a marvellous collection of images and a very good facility on the web.
PC 15/5/99
Point taken! I aspire to be, but am not yet, an expert on Manchester. I certainly won't forget this now! Thanks very much for your comments.

Aidan I was just here to check out the family history section and got a nice surprise to see your exhibition.
You've come a long way baby!
Best regards, Melanie McCluskey 18May99
Thanks to Melanie, recently returned with family from Canada. Good decision!
YOU'VE CAPTURED MANCHESTER FANTASTICALLY. A TRUE INSIGHT & ACCOUNT OF THE CITY! BEST OF LUCK! & CARRY ON THE GOOD WORK
DEBBIE ..
Very many thanks

Hi Aidan
Your photographs are great. I particularly like the panoramic view of the bridges in Castlefield and the one from Century House (I think) of St Peters Square/Library. My husband loves the pictures of the canals in fog and they remind him of old M/CR.
Take care!
Jill Cohen (ex-CLB)
Yes, it's Century House. I'll have to keep snapping before the "old" Manchester is turned into yet another cafe bar! Ta!

23/5/99
Very inspirational! Charles Williams http://d2a.virtualave.net
Thank you
Aidan - glad to finally see the exhibit. Look forward to you finally publishing them in book form.
Peter Pelham, Novato Calif.
Thanks, I'm working on it.

25/5/99: I shall experience 'Ashton Canal at Sunrise'. Breathtaking shot. K... See ya
Thanks - and this scene will change soon, as it's part of the Commonwealth Games 2002 site.

4/6/99 Hello mate it's Philip, your sister's friend who you gave a lift up to Wales not too long ago. Glad things are taking off nice work (could be a little more explosive but at least it's a cool exhibition) Good luck and keep on working. Phil
Well, I'm not aiming to be explosive, apart from the fireworks over the Central Library. Thanks!
4/6/99 Splendid surprise - my first visit to M/C since 1964! Had been hoping to see Millais' Autumn Leaves in the Art Gallery (closed till 2001!) so your excellent images provide some compensation! (hope to come back)! John VILLETTE
What an honour to be mentioned in the same sentence as one of the Pre-Raphaelites, whose paintings were on show in a special room in the City Art Gallery. I often used to call in there for inspiration.
5/6/99 Wow! Why can't I take pictures like these? You have a gift! I've stood on the same spots and not seen the same photographic opportunities. Well done & THANK YOU for capturing these moments for all time.
P.S. WHERE CAN I SEE MORE?
On the website of course, though the images look better in print than on screen. Thanks very much indeed for your comments!
7/6/99
Some impressive photographs. Is it possible to get copies of thse photos made up to order?
Yes, it is, please contact me via my home page www.aidan.co.uk, e-mail aidan@anamaria.u-net.com, or phone 0161 225 4264
7/6/99
Superb views, most of them I know - the Ancoats ones particularly nostalgic. ARL Brooklands
Yes, Ancoats has lots of wonderful locations. Thanks for your comments.
7/6/ Very interesting.
Thank you
9/6 Amazing
Thanks
9/6 Cool! Keep k.... Keep photo
Will do

9/6 The United pictures are great. They should be made into postcards. FANTASTIC
Glad you like them. A lot of work went into this composite image. I'll see about getting it made into a postcard. Thanks

9/6/99 I have been here in Manchester on business and stayed m ore than a month. Seen a lot of Manchester but never seen it so beautiful as it appears here in these lovely photographs -
Good job done.... mate
ARI
That's great - thank you very much - but it is beautiful - you just have to find it
10/06/99
About time we glorified ourselves for what we are - best city in the land.
Seems obvious to me! Thanks for your comment
Excellent - I can understand now how the quality of your photographs is doing wonders to improve/enhance Manchester's image around the world. Keep them coming!
Roy Parkes (Blue Badge Guide)
P.S. Photo of "Bridgewater Canal" (No 19 August 1998) is in fact Rochdale Canal - but who cares?

Yes, another viewer noticed this error. Unfortunately, I'm not quite as knowledgeable about Manchester as you Blue Badge Guides. I'll have to check up on my canals again! Thanks - by the way, enjoyed your recent tour of Gorton!

And finally... a pair of love messages written in the back of the Guest book - I shouldn't really include them, but they're quite printable (unlike some of the other scribblings which I've omitted) so hope the love birds appreciate my generosity in passing their messages on into cyberspace...

Thinking of you
Still in my mind.
Nevertheless "Cruel to be kind".
Wish I could hold you one more time.
One month from now you will be x
MINE

Thinking of you
You are a stream of sun, spilling onto the kitchen floor
and I am the Cat that pounces on it and soaks it up. X
Ahem... very nice, but what about my exhibition!?
