Nutrition - food enjoyment
Nutritionists all agree that the basis for a lifetime of healthy eating begins
in childhood. And the key to it all is making food FUN and if possible keeping
it fresh.
Giving children a positive approach to eating, making it a family affair and
a pleasure, not an ordeal, is one of the best things parents can pass on.
Jan Dawson, head of nutrition and dietetic services for the Mancunian Community
Trust, said: 'Very often parents can pass on their own hang-ups about food to
their children, talking about diets and bingeing and breeding an unhealthy attitude.
'It is important to eat the right foods but it is also important to make food
fun, to make meals enjoyable. Seeing a child tucking with gusto into a piece of
fruit is a wonderful sight to me. It is healthy, it is quick, it is cheap and
it is fun.
'The lessons learned in childhood lay the foundations for food for life.'
