Attitude
CAN you think yourself well? There is overwhelming evidence that a positive
attitude can not only help prevent minor illness it can play a crucial part in
the recovery of patients, even those with serious conditions.
Depression and stress badly affects the immune system, suppressing the fighter
t-cells which fight viruses. Which is why you go down with a cold when you are
feeling low.
Professor Cary Cooper, professor of psychology at UMIST, said: "The mind
is incredibly powerful and we are only just realising just how crucial attitude
can be to your health. The key is shifting from negative to positive and sometimes
something as simple as just going for a walk in the fresh air can have that uplifting
effect.
"You have to believe you can achieve things. Sometimes."
