Good things come in small packages

THE high cost of land and construction means living spaces are being made smaller to be affordable.

The biggest development currently going up in Manchester – the towering Jefferson Place, in the Green Quarter – has a mix of apartments, including 30 compact studios.

Only six are left to sell and to help young buyers get a better idea of how they could be fit-out the developer Crosby Lend Lease has called in Habitat to sort out the styling.

The studios follow the curve of the front of the building and already include a pull-down full-size double bed and fully fitted kitchen and Habitat have put in pieces that not only provide useful storage but also help divide the space into different areas.

Prices start at £129,000 and sales and marketing manager Clare Pearson, said: “We believe they provide an affordable way for first time buyers to get on the property ladder and we are also offering buyers £500 to spend at the Habitat in Manchester.”

Jefferson, with 309 apartments, is the fourth building in this eight acre regeneration scheme but there is even bigger to come. The tallest free-standing tower crane in the country is now on site for Shepherd Construction to build block 6 that will have 345 apartments.
