Tips on reducing your footprint

IN an ideal world we would all like to have the latest home insulation and renewable energy technology like solar panes.

But if you can’t afford to make this sort of investment Manchester removals company, Robinson’s International has 10 helpful tips to help reduce your carbon footprint.
The advise:

1: If you are buying new appliances check their energy efficiency ratings (EER) and buy the most efficient ones with economy settings. Look for a washing machine with a timer so you can set it to wash at night when electricity is cheaper.

2: Fit aluminium foil behind each radiator – it’s a cheap way to conserve heat as the foil reflects heat back into the room. You can use kitchen foil or specially designed foil from a DIY store.

3: Replace old light bulbs with energy efficient ones, they last 12 times longer than ordinary bulbs.

4: Install a clock thermostat to automatically turn the heating down to 15 degrees Celsius at night. Reducing the day time setting by just one degree Celsius could cut your heating bills by a further 10 per cent and save around £40 per year.

5: Position your freezer away from any hot appliances and check the door seals are working.

6: Set down some new eco house rules – to turn off lights when you leave the room, don’t leave appliances on standby or on charge unnecessarily and don’t fill the kettle full for one cup of coffee.

7: Block drafts on outside doors and get covers for keyholes and letterboxes.

8: Fix leaking taps and make sure they are always fully turned off.

9: Top up the attic and roof insulation to a depth of 270mm.

10: Make sure your hot water tank has an insulating blanket at least 75mm thick.
