MANCHESTER’S reputation as one of the clubbing capitals of the world has been enhanced by a new poll.
The December issue of dance music magazine Mixmag contains a list of the top 30 events in clubbing history from across the world.
And while Ibiza, New York and Chicago and London all figured prominently in the chart, voted for by the magazine’s staff, Manchester was deemed to have hosted the two best club nights ever.
Number two in the charts is Tribal Gathering’s party in a warehouse in Ancoats last summer, which the magazine described as “one of the UK’s greatest ever raves.”
But the Hacienda took the top honours, with a series of legendary bashes in 1994 making it the world’s best clubbing venue ever.
There’s also another appearance from a Manchester band in the chart. The “shambolic genius” of the Happy Mondays’ performance at Ibiza club Manumission took it to number 25.
The top ten greatest parties ever are as follows:
1 Hacienda, Manchester, 1994
2 Tribal Gathering, Manchester, 2003
3 Outdoor rave, Castlemorton, 1990
4 Studio 54, New York, 1977
5 Gatecrasher, Sheffield, 1999
6 Shoom, London, 1987
7 Warehouse party, Burnley, 1990
8 Loft party, Chicago, 1987
9 Taboo, London, 1985
10 Amnesia, Ibiza, 1999
