SIR Alex Ferguson is planning to spoil the Chelsea title party when he
takes his side to Stamford Bridge in two weeks' time.
Chelsea need just a point to take their second successive Barclays Premiership crown,
although their goal difference is so superior that they have all but tied the blue
ribbons around the trophy already.
But Ferguson, with eight Premiership titles under his belt, has not given up hope
and he suggested that Jose Mourinho's men might not be fully concentrated.
"There are times when you have the title sewn up and there is a bit of complacency
about the place," said Ferguson after his United side had beaten Tottenham at
White Hart Lane to prolong the title chase.
"It will be a fantastic game. We need to make
that second spot. Hopefully we can achieve that. It keeps the fans interested
and keeps everybody at the club interested and keeps the season bubbling away."
Two first-half goals from Wayne Rooney gave United the victory against a Spurs
side who were desperate for points in the race for that coveted fourth-placed
Champions League spot.
It brought Rooney's tally for the season to 18 and brought plaudits from Ferguson,
who had admitted the England striker had his quietest game for the club in the
goalless draw against Sunderland on Good Friday.
"That is the kind of return I expect of him," said Ferguson. "When
he is getting that sort of return and so is (Ruud) Van Nistelrooy and (Louis)
Saha is contributing then that is a good quota."
