Airline in new drama

HOLIDAYMAKERS from Manchester have been caught up in a terrifying jet drama - the second to hit the same airline in a week.

They were flying from Malaga with Monarch when their Boeing 757 had to turn around and make an emergency landing.

Reports suggest one of the engines caught fire shortly after the plane, carrying 199 passengers, took off from the Spanish resort yesterday. The incident comes just five days after another Monarch Boeing 757 - heading from Manchester to Malaga - was forced to land at Gatwick when cabin pressure suddenly dropped.

A spokesman for the airline said of the latest drama: "The flight deck and cabin crew were in control of the situation at all times."

The same aircraft was not involved in both incidents.

Yesterday's drama began shortly after Monarch flight ZB573 left Malaga at 1.10pm local time. The aeroplane landed safely back at the airport at 1.45pm.Its passengers were due to arrive at Manchester Airport late last night.

Well said G.F, l was on the plane and l was terrified."sensible the world" and Suzy must be wrapped up their left wing comfort blankets. Trust me, when you think you are going to die the only people you think about are you and your family. Hurricanes, tsunami's, twin towers, death camps etc never even crossed my mind

Offensive or Inappropriate?

I am trying to find out what happened on this flight and am very disapointed at some of the comments dismissing this as a small, uneventfull air incident. These people neither saw or were on the flight and more likely work in the civil aviation industry and are trying to play these kind of incidents down. Yes, it was a perfect landing. No we did'nt have to exit the plane on inflatable shoots but i doubt one person on board thought they would safely get back to Malaga and i no most people at the airport thought it was lost, i no because i talked to them. I was on the plane behind the engine that " failed". I don't like flying so any unexpected noise scares the shit out of me but this was a loud bang and then there were vibrations that should have shaken the plane to bits. There were flames coming from the engine if only for a short time and then lots of smoke. It banked to one side and then the other as the pilot tried to compensate for the lost power and at this point people were looking at each other wondering if this was just "one of those things". When the pilot made a coded anouncement and the cabin staff started started dragging things out of there top lockers everyone knew a serious problem had occured. When we were over the med we were always banking to the left, wether this was due to the lack of power or it was to dump fuel in preperation for a crash landing only a expert would no. People were crying, stewerdes' looked pale and had forced smiles( its one thing training for it, different when its for real),and families were holding hands but thankfully not one child including my own were worried. We were very low over the sea and i was convinced we were going to ditch and by this time i had told my wife and kids how much i loved them as i did'nt think we had much time left together. The hydraulic sounds made by the plane, even on landing will haunt me for the rest of my life, l will never fly again and anyone who thinks i am being melodramatic,(not a "MAN") should try to look their family in the face believing they will never see them again,(watcing them burn or drown, thats what scared me the most). Finally well done to the cabin staff(proffesional to the end even though as worried as us) and monarch who gave everyone 20 euro's each for food and i think tried to help as much as possible,(everyones view on that will be different) but most of all THANKYOU to the pilot, you might look on it as an occupational hazard but to me you saved my familys life.I served in gulf war 1 and N.Ireland, and thought i'd lost everything i had lived/worked for. I have never been so scared and anyone who dismisses what i am saying should look me in the eye and tell me i'm full of shit, i'll show them how scarey life can be.
