Big Brother helps sweet idea pay off

COMPUTER whiz Gareth Williams is hoping to cash in on Celebrity Big Brother - even though he failed to watch a single episode.

The 26-year-old was bemused when he was suddenly bombarded with offers to buy four websites he owns containing the word "kandyfloss".

He did not know fake celebrity Chantelle Houghton won the Celebrity Big Brother TV show after convincing fellow housemates she was a singer in a pop band with the same name.

Now it seems anonymous buyers are trying to snap up all things "kandyfloss" and Gareth looks set to benefit as a result.

He said: "I couldn't understand why people suddenly wanted to buy my Kandyfloss website names. I've had them a couple of years and nobody has shown any interest before.

Floating

"A friend said it must be because of Big Brother. I don't have a TV so I didn't watch the show. I don't even know who won."

Gareth, a club promoter who runs a city centre events magazine called Hot Village, bought the four website names for just a few pounds because he was hoping to set up an internet magazine called Kandyfloss.

But it never got off the ground and the web addresses were just floating in cyberspace until Chantelle won Big Brother last week.

It is rumoured the 22-year-old may try to start a real band called Kandyfloss.

Reports suggest the former office temp could earn more than '1m over the next few months. But Gareth, who lives in Manchester, is also looking to cash-in.

He said: "I've been offered quite bit more money for the website names than I paid for them, but I'm not going to say how much. It won't make me a millionaire."
