Morrissey denied No 1 by web hit

3/ 4/2006

MORRISSEY'S new single has been kept off the top spot - by a duo who have made chart history.

The Stretford singer's track, You Have Killed Me, went in at Number Three.

The top chart position was taken by duo Gnarls Barkley with their song Crazy, the first track to top the British charts based solely on download sales. Fans downloaded it 31,000 times after it was featured in TV ads for Radio 1 DJ Zane Lowe's 1 show.

A recent change in the rules means downloads can be counted towards a chart position as long as copies hit the shops the following week.

It's a travesty. Looking forward to seeing Moz at The Apollo on May 6th.

Offensive or Inappropriate?

Only 31,000 to get a number one. How music has changed.
