It was a bargain, say crimpers
Adam Moss21/ 4/2006
MANCHESTER'S celebrity crimpers reckon the Labour party got a bargain paying "only" '7,700 for a month's bespoke hairdressing.
Nicky Oliver, whose clients include a host of TV soap stars, says he would have charged far more to look after Cherie's locks.
He said: "I would charge '300 for a hairdo and that might only take an hour to do. I know Nicky Clarke could charge up to '500 for the same thing. So the fact that Cherie had someone at her beck and call looking after her hair all day every day for a month at just '275 a day is very cheap.
"It would probably cost a great deal more to have a plumber or electrician on constant call for a month. I would charge '1,500 a day for that kind of service."
But Nicky - who has two salons in Manchester city centre - believes it was cheeky to make the Labour Party pay for Cherie's hairdressing costs out of party funds.
He said: "If it had been for Tony then I think that would have been fair enough. Of course Cherie had to look her best during the election campaign, but it should have fallen to her to foot the bill, not the Labour Party."
Celebrity hairdresser Peter Regan, who has worked for years in the film industry and now runs his salon in Deansgate, thinks the price is "fair" for the full-time service Cherie would have expected from her campaign stylist.
He said: "The hairdresser would have had to do Cherie's hair two or three times a day and wouldn't have been able to work for anyone else during that month - or possibly even for the month afterwards - so I think the price is fair ."

I agree with you there Ace. While muppets with more money than sense pay these ridiculous prices, then these people will still overcharge
