Cameron flies in for 'green' visit

28/ 4/2006

TORY leader David Cameron displayed his "green" credentials by arriving to catch a Metrolink tram in a hybrid electric/petrol car . . . .but only after flying into Bury by helicopter.

Mr Cameron was in Greater Manchester to promote Tory urban transport schemes and meet candidates for next week's local elections.

He was given a tour of Metrolink HQ and briefed on the stalled expansion plans for the system. But he could offer no promises.

'Review'

He said his party was holding a "major review" of trams, guided buses and other mass transit ideas, but said: "I can't offer a magic wand. You can't do that in opposition."

The Commons Transport Committee is to reopen an inquiry into the fate of the planned Metrolink extensions, as MPs probe the funding of local transport.

Yes lead by example ? The fuel used by that helicopter would probably fuel a family car for around three weeks or more ? But people like Mr cameron would say that he has a busy schedule ?? That would be most peoples excuse to use large amounts of fossil fuel? Im afraid to say that the conservatives are setting a very bad example,If they are trying to look green!!!He needs to get the same spin doctor as blair .Maybe then he could do what blair does with ease "Con the electorate" With a smile ...

Offensive or Inappropriate?

What a hypecrite! It's madness to fly in by helicopter to pose on a tram! I wonder will it really help get the first Conservative councillor in Manchester. I doubt it.
