Pete Waterman's former studio to become offices

THE former recording studio of pop supremo Pete Waterman is to be converted into offices after a £3m deal, it was announced today.

Altrincham developer Bluetree Estates, which bought Castlefield Chapel, Manchester, from the multi-millionaire producer for £1m in 2006, has secured funding to transform the site.

The Grade II listed building, built in 1852, was the venue where many of Stock Aitken and Waterman's biggest hits were recorded in the 1980s, including Rick Astley's Never Gonna Give You Up. Following backing from NatWest commercial bank, Bluetree is to convert the former church into 11,000 sq ft of offices. The project is due to be completed next May.

Bluetree was able to buy the site as Mr Waterman decided to leave Manchester to consolidate his recording business in London.
