End of the road for corkscrews?

29/ 4/2004

Corkscrews could be about to join the "gadget graveyard" because of a growing acceptance among wine drinkers of screw top bottles, according to a new report today.

Research among 2,000 adults found that almost four out of five were not against screw tops as opposed to corks.

Only one in 10 of those questioned by drinks retailer Thresher believed that wine out of a corked bottle tasted better.

Only 13% said they believed screw caps signified cheaper wines.

Jonathan Butt, wine buyer for Thresher, said screw caps were definitely more people friendly.

"I've watched a lot of red-faced party guests struggling to extract a stubborn cork."

HURRAH FINALLY, SOMEONE THAT SEE'S THAT CORKS ARE NOT ALWAYS THE BEST. BEING A WINERY OWNER IN THE NEW WORLD, CORKINESS IN WINES IS ALWAYS A BIG PROBLEM THAT COSTS BOTH US AND THE CONSUMER MONEY. VQA NOW ALLOWS WINES WITH SCREW CAPS. NO MORE CORKED WINES. CHEERS
