Hunt goes on for man who smeared Kilroy-Silk in slurry

POLICE are still hunting the man who dumped a bucket of slurry over Euro MP Robert Kilroy-Silk in Manchester this weekend.

The controversial MEP was covered in muck when he arrived for a live radio show on Friday at Manchester High School for Girls, on Grangethorpe Road, in Fallowfield.

Bolton MP Ruth Kelly was also pelted with manure outside the school at 7.15pm by a man reported as saying: "I am doing this in the name of Islam".

The man was briefly held by school staff, but he ran off towards Wilmslow Road after Mr Kilroy-Silk grabbed him and smeared some of the muck on his face.

Police are treating the incident as an assault.

Angry

They are now appealing for information about the man, who is believed to have arrived in a red Vauxhall Corsa. He is described as white, between 30 and 40, just under 6ft tall and has a ginger beard.

Mr Kilroy-Silk was at the school to broadcast a live political programme on Radio 4 alongside Mrs Kelly, the Minister of State for the Cabinet Office, and was about to start transmission when they were ambushed.

The MP had to change into a borrowed T-shirt and jeans after washing in the school sink.

He said afterwards he was "very angry" and would press charges if his assailant was caught.

Anyone with any information can contact Longsight CID on 0161 856 4269 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Offensive or Inappropriate?

I can give a very good description of the attacker. Indeed the 4 million who read yesterday's Daily Mail will have seen his face. Doubt that will assist a police force that would rather be pulling in politically correct villains. Kilroy said he was investigated by the police for 6 months over telling the truth about repressive arab states. I doubt they are interested in catching a real criminal.
