Tattooed sex beast hunted

POLICE were today hunting a tattooed sex attacker who broke the jaw of a teenager after dragging her through the streets and raping her.

Detectives appealed for help in catching the man, who raped and assaulted the 19-year-old shortly after 2am yesterday.

She left Barbarella's nightclub in Leigh with the attacker and turned right on to Spinning Jenny Way towards the bus station.

He suddenly struck the woman in the face before dragging her through the town centre to a back alley off Union Street, where he raped her. He then hit her repeatedly in the face.

Horrendous

She was taken to Wigan Royal Infirmary with face injuries, including a broken jaw, and later transferred to Manchester Royal Infirmary.

Det Sgt Gary Ashurst, of Leigh CID, said: "This was a horrendous attack on a young woman who had been enjoying a night out in Leigh.

"She has been left with terrible injuries and is extremely traumatised. There would have been people walking round Leigh town centre at the time of the attack, when the clubs and pubs were shutting."

The attacker was white, aged about 25, of large build, with dark, shaven hair. He wore a dark blue Ted Baker top and dark trousers.

He had a tattoo on his left shoulder and a distinctive tattoo of a woman, with half a smile and half a frown, on his stomach.
