C4 film charts baby in womb

ASTONISHING pictures of a human baby inside the womb are to be screened in a TV documentary.

The Channel 4 show Life Before Birth charts the incredible journey of a child before it takes its first breath.

The two-hour film provides a unique view from single cell to living, breathing baby.

A Channel 4 spokeswoman said: "The film provides entirely new and astounding insights into the secrets of life in the womb and the crucial moments in life's evolution."

Trailed as "an unforgettable journey into the womb", the project captured stunning footage including the first heartbeat and muscle twitches.

The spokeswoman said: "New research reveals that the human foetus develops much faster than ever previously thought as it learns the reflexes and responses it will need to survive on its own."

Other shows include a major new Friday night entertainment show called Johnny Vegas: 18 Stone Of Idiot.

Lancashire-born Vegas, whose Manchester-filmed sitcom Dead Man Weds has been axed by ITV1 after one series, is joined by celebrity guests as he embarks on a series of stunts.

Chef Gordon Ramsay returns with a second series of Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares and Marple-born actress Kaye Wragg is back with a new series of the hospital drama No Angels.

Other highlights of the new season include the return of Big Brother and a new series of hit American import Desperate Housewives.
