Council urges driver caution

15/ 9/2005

AS Summer draws to a close and Autumn begins, Manchester Council are reminding the City's drivers to watch their speed.

Around nine people die every day on Britain's roads and by far the biggest cause is driving too fast for the conditions.

Even in good conditions the difference between stopping at 30mph and 35mph is an extra stopping distance of around six metres.

But with visibility and weather starting to worsen, the council are reminding drivers that reducing speed could make the difference between life and death.

Skid Mark you are right- they have a decent grippy surface (which they never use) and we are left with pot hole ridden ice rinks !!! The other day I nearly hit a cyclist who was riding in the dark, whilst it was raining, he had no lights on and was riding alongside an emtpy cycle lane !!! Idiot !!! The thing is it would have been my fault if I had hit him - good job I can drive and am not some stupid woman who can't drive to save her life !!

Offensive or Inappropriate?

you need a slippery road surface so you can do handbrake turns, because you can never find a roundabout because of all the cycle lanes. i bet they have got anti slip surfaces.
