Friends launch pet memorials online

THE death of a pet budgie sparked an idea that has led to worldwide web success for three former school friends.
When dad Philip MacDougall had to comfort his 12-year-old daughter over her loss, he came up with the idea for a permanent memorial ' online.
Now, several years later, his son, Neil McDougall, 27, and his former classmates Barry Harris, 28, of Little Hulton and Richard Seale, 27, of Walkden are running the website www.apetcemetery.com and attracting users from across America as well as here in the UK.
Phillip, 57, of Bolton explained that the site offered users the chance to create a memorial, send an ecard or share the grief of the lost pet.
Some of the services carry a small charge, which is used to cover the costs of maintaining the site, although Phillip also hopes they will raise money for animal charities.
Donation
He said: 'Any new website needs time to take off and to become established. I genuinely believe that we have the best pet memorial website available on the internet, and that within six months we will be recognised as the number one site.
'We hope to generate enough money to be able to make a worthwhile donation to the named animal charities and to be able to keep adding to, and continue to improve the website'.
The site has already attracted almost 70 memorials since its launch last month and the group hope to launch other features such as screensavers and a lost and found section soon.

Today I thought I would take a quick peek at www.apetcemetery.com and found myself spending a lot of time looking at the amazing pet memorials and reading the very sad tributes. It brought me to tears, and although it's upsetting, I shall be going back, soon, to read the poems and stories.

Good luck to the four people who have given pet lovers the chance to show their love for their beloved pets and knowing that each memorial is free , I feel you have done a wonderful service to the world of pets.

Best wishes and good luck. Alison
