Hollywood star Gwyneth Paltrow kept mum over rumours she was pregnant but the director of her latest film appeared to let it slip.

The Oscar winning actress attended the UK premier of Proof dressed in a stunning floor length figure hugging black Gucci dress .

Paltrow, 33, did not deny or confirm the rumours she is expecting her second child but said she was enjoying motherhood.

But director John Madden admitted he had congratulated the Shakespeare In Love star that day.

"She was pregnant while making this movie," he said referring to her first child 16-month-old Apple, "so I am hoping it won't be too long for a third collaboration," he told waiting media.

Paltrow's publicist refused to confirm the reports last night.

It was Paltrow's mother, actress Blythe Danner, who reportedly let slip that she was going to be a grandmother again at a media awards ceremony in Los Angeles.

Paltrow and her husband, Coldplay front man Chris Martin, 28, met in London in 2002 and married in California in December 2003.

There has been speculation in recent weeks that the pair were expecting again.

Arriving at the Odeon West End in Leicester Square, Paltrow said she had a great time making Proof which is based on David Auburn's Pulitzer prize winning play in which she first starred in the theatre.

She plays a young woman coming to terms with the legacy left by her father, a mathematical genius blighted by madness, played by Anthony Hopkins.

Paltrow said she enjoyed playing the role as it was "complicated, contradictory and very very rich".

"You don't find that very often," she said.

Motherhood has changed her life she added and she said she didn't know why her husband had chosen the name Apple for her daughter.

"I really love living in London," she said. "It's a great place, I have a lot of friends here."
