Madonna bares all in documentary

REVEALING: Madonna
REVEALING: Madonna
Pop queen Madonna pours out her heart tonight in a new documentary about her music, family and religion.

I'm Going to Tell You a Secret is the first authorised documentary about the singer since the raunchy In Bed with Madonna in 1991.

Directed by pop video director Jonas Akerlund, it takes viewers behind the scenes of the singer's 2004 Re-Invention tour. As well as showing the effort that goes into such a tour, Madonna talks about her family life and her interest in philosophy and theology.

The film opens with the singer reading from the book of Revelations and she explains her adherence to the mystical Jewish teachings of Kabbalah, saying at one point: "Light is immortality. It's a place where there is no pain or suffering."

Madonna, known to be a perfectionist, is shown sitting in on the auditions for dancers for her tour and making them join hands in a circle before she takes to the stage.

Her own dancing skills show no sign of fading as she approaches 50 and she is shown giving it her all during rehearsals.

The film's premiere on Tuesday night attracted stars in their droves including Gwyneth Paltrow, Stella McCartney and Sharleen Spiteri.

:: I'm Going to Tell You a Secret will be shown at 9pm on Channel 4.
