DESPITE appearances to the contrary, top British actress Dame Judi Dench has admitted that she is no intellectual and sometimes doesn't reads plays.

"I've gotten myself into real trouble by saying yes to a play, then going to the first reading and realising, 'This is a bummer!"' she says in the latest edition of Newsweek.

Dame Judi, who plays a 1930s British dame who opens a nude theatrical review in the film Mrs Henderson Presents, also admits to sneaking a peek at Bob Hoskins, who appears briefly in the nude.

"I just had a quick look up and down, like you would," laughed the Oscar-winning star.
