Celebrity BB: Absent Galloway accused of 'child-like ego'

CONTROVERSIAL: Galloway
CONTROVERSIAL: Galloway
LABOUR opponents of George Galloway say they will present an "alternative" speech at Parliament on Thursday in protest at the Respect MP missing an important Commons debate while in the Celebrity Big Brother house.

The MP has enraged some voters in his east London constituency of Bethnal Green and Bow by abandoning his duties to enter the Big Brother house.

He will miss a Commons debate tomorrow on the £500 million Crossrail transport link which will affect the Bethnal Green and Bow constituency.

The local Labour Party said it was joining forces with residents to give a speech on Crossrail and planned to meet Transport Secretary Alistair Darling today.

House

Labour leader of Tower Hamlets Council, Cllr Michael Keith, said: "The need for this action is because our elected MP is still on his extended Christmas vacation in the Big Brother house, and remains out of contact from his constituents, massaging his child-like ego."

Galloway also faced criticism from Tony Blair yesterday over his decision to appear on the Channel 4 reality show.

Asked on GMTV: "Would you fancy one of your MPs doing that?", the Prime Minister replied: "No."

And bookies are offering odds of 2/5 that Galloway will lose his parliamentary seat at the next general election.

Paul Petrie of Totesport said: "This adventure has done George Galloway no good at all and it will definitely count against him when he is next up for election."
