Celebrity BB: Galloway dismisses condemnation

George leaves the Big Brother house
George leaves the Big Brother house
BIG Brother evictee George Galloway branded the widespread condemnation of his time on the reality show as "sanctimonious humbug" today.

The Respect Party MP said he was amazed by the level of interest in his 21-day stay inside the celebrity house from both the media and his fellow parliamentarians.

The politician became the object of ridicule after he was seen impersonating a cat lapping imaginary milk from the hands of actress Rula Lenska and dancing in a tight red leotard.

"They seem to have got it all out of proportion," he told Channel 4's Big Brother's Little Brother.

"There are so many things happening in the world and they seem to have been devoting acres of newsprint to a reality TV show.

Respect Party

"The way they have been going at me would suggest that they think they have something to fear from me and the Respect Party - and some of the sanctimonious humbug I have seen in the press...

"The British parliament is full of people who jet around the world on fact-finding junkets to exotic places every day of the week and they are never hauled over the coals."

Mr Galloway said he had not been paid his parliamentary salary while he was on Big Brother - something he had been unable to tell anyone before entering the house.

The politician said he could not believe the Labour chief whip Hilary Armstrong had been "walking round my constituency with a petition" while he was away.
