Celebrity BB: Chantelle wants it right now

WINNER!: Chantelle
WINNER!: Chantelle
CELEBRITY Big Brother winner Chantelle Houghton took to the stage yesterday for a one-off performance with her fictional band Kandyfloss.

The Essex girl was joined in the Big Brother house by her four "bandmates" for a rendition of their supposed hit single I Want It Right Now.

The first task set for the previously unknown 22-year-old when she entered the house was to convince the other contestants that she had genuine celebrity status as lead singer in the girlband.

Following a dodgy performance of the song the other celebrities fell for her story and she was allowed to remain in the house.

During the first reunion of the housemates since the end of the show the former promotions girl said she was "running on adrenaline".

She said she couldn't stop smiling since winning the show and walking away with £25,000.

Magazine

Chantelle told presenter Dermot O'Leary she had spent her time getting used to her new-found celebrity status by taking part in a magazine photoshoot.

When the result was announced on Friday night, Chantelle said she thought a trick was being played on her.

"I was just like hang on a minute and then I started thinking this is a joke, another cruel task.

"I didn't know what to think being in that room on my own."

She said Faria Alam, Michael Barrymore, who lives in New Zealand and Americans Dennis Rodman and Traci Bingham had been the easiest housemates to fool into believing in her fake celerity status.

"They had been out of the country and so didn't know so much about what was going on in this country."

She admitted she had missed Preston since leaving the house but gave the stock celebrity answer "no comment" when asked about speculation over a possible romance between them.

Asked about her future plans, she said: "I am waiting for tomorrow and when tomorrow comes I am going to wait for the next day and see what comes.

"It hasn't sunk in yet. I feel I am in a dream, watching some else's life at the moment."

Runner-up Michael Barrymore was philosophical about his future plans saying: "Whatever is offered is offered," but said he would continue to live in New Zealand.

Jade Goody

Chantelle, who has been signed by the same talent agency that represents the show's presenter Davina McCall and former contestants Jade Goody and Craig Phillips, is predicted to earn £1 million over the coming year.

A spokeswoman for Chantelle said she had been approached about the possibility of releasing the song with Kandyfloss but as yet there were no plans to do so.

"It's still very early days. Chantelle hasn't had chance to go through all the offers coming in so we won't be making any firm plans until next week," she said.

Meanwhile so many bets were placed on Chantelle getting engaged to Preston this year, that bookies William Hill have closed the book.

"We have never had a response like this to our big brother specials.

"If Preston pops the question he will not be the only one on his knees," said Hills spokesman Rupert Adams.

However they are still offering odds of 12-1 on the pair tying the knot in 2006.

The odds on Barrymore presenting a primetime ITV show in 2006 were slashed from 6-1 to 3-1.

The bookmaker has also offered 2-1 on Kandyfloss, featuring Chantelle, to have a number one hit this year with the band scooping the 2006 Christmas number one quoted at 33-1.
