X-factor: Trevor gets seal of approval

HE just missed out on a place in last year's finals of The X Factor, but young Trevor Hodgson has been given the ultimate backing for this year's show - from judge Louis Walsh.

Music guru Louis, who won last year's show with Clayton's Shayne Ward, has been in contact with Trevor to urge him to try out again when auditions start for the new series of The X Factor in April.

Fans of the ITV show last year saw 17-year-old Trevor wow the three judges - Simon Cowell, Sharon Osbourne and Louis Walsh - with his powerful voice that belied his shy boyish looks in his first audition at The Lowry Hotel.

He sailed through the pop boot camp and was invited to the final audition at Louis's Dublin home - but was told he "wasn't ready" for the next stage.

But Louis told me this week: "Trevor should absolutely come back this year. He will absolutely fly through.

"He's the one person I definitely still think about from the last series. He was a really nice guy and I know he's been working an awful lot since.

"I definitely see Trevor getting a record deal in the future.

"Just look at Shayne, he auditioned on Popstars: The Rivals but didn't get through. But if at first you don't succeed, you just have to try again."

Now Trevor, from Rochdale, has to decide whether to go through the audition process again - although he tells me he does have other options on the table. He's now singing full time, and performs at Salford's Willows club every Friday and Saturday night as well as doing a range of other bookings.

Salford City Reds and Willows boss John Wilkinson has been a mentor to Trevor, and the pair have discussed the possibility of him releasing a record on an independent label.

"Louis has texted me saying he wanted me to apply this year, which sounds promising," says Trevor.

"I've got the application forms, but my family and I are debating whether I should go for it again.

"I'm just frightened about going back and not getting any further than last year. People brand me an X Factor reject now, so I wouldn't want to be a reject for a second time.

"But I did have a great experience on the show, and people still recognise me now as Trevor from The X Factor."

Let's hope we get to cheer him on again this year.
