MADONNA has smashed the record to become the female artist with the most number one singles in the UK charts.

Sorry, which hit the top spot on Sunday, was the Queen of Pop's 12th UK number one single.

She makes history 20 years, seven months and one day since Into the Groove hit the number one spot in 1985.

Melanie C held the record with 11 number one UK singles, including her Spice Girls hits.

Sorry, Madonna's 60th UK hit, is the second track to be released from her latest album, Confessions On A Dance Floor.

Elvis Presley had 21 UK number ones and The Beatles 17, holding the record for recording artist and band.
