Emmerdale scoops top soap award Emmerdale star Patsy Kensit arrives THE cast and producers of Emmerdale were celebrating today after the show was named best soap opera in the Royal Television Society awards.Comic Catherine Tate - catchphrase 'Am I Bothered?' - also scooped an award. Her BBC2 hit The Catherine Tate Show beat talent contest The X-Factor and reality show I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here to the win the coveted best entertainment show title. David Threlfall, who plays scrounger Frank Gallagher in Channel 4's Shameless, won the best actor award. Drama Legendary screenwriter Andrew Davies was named best drama writer for BBC1's widely acclaimed soap-style adaptation of Charles Dickens's Bleak House. Best sitcom prize went to BBC4's The Thick of It, which stars Chris Langham. And best single drama was Channel 4's The Government Inspector, about events leading up to the death of Iraq weapons expert Dr David Kelly. The awards ceremony at London's Grosvenor House Hotel attracted a star-studded audience.
