Javine and Jade crowned Games champs

GOLD MEDALISTS: Jade and Javine
SINGERS Javine Hylton and Jade Jones have been crowned champions of TV show The Games.

The R&B stars came out on top on Friday night after eight days of gruelling competition for the Channel 4 programme.

Participants took part in events including hurdles, weightlifting, curling, swimming, archery, hammer and the 100m sprint.

Other more unusual events included for the first time were white water kayak slalom, kendo and archery.

Javine, 24, who last year represented the UK in the Eurovision Song Contest, was dubbed "Javine Machine" after winning six out of nine events.

Her wins included hurdles, gym floor, swimming and the 100m sprint.

She said: "This is a dream come true. It's been a tough contest and I'm really pleased to have won."

Damage

Jade, 25, a former singer in boy group Damage and long-term boyfriend of Spice Girl Emma Bunton, notching up five event victories.

He said: "It's been brilliant. I'm totally over the moon."

Liberal Democrat MP Julia Goldsworthy and Radio 1 DJ JK (Jason King) came second overall while Michelle Gayle and Blazin' Squad MC Plat'num secured took third place.

The other competitors were TV presenter Amanda Lamb, Bernie Nolan, Adam Rickitt and Peter Duncan.

They spent three months in intensive training with world-class sporting experts including Roger Black, Sally Gunnell and Suzanne Dando.

The group competed in front of a live audience and lived together in the purpose-built athletes' village in Sheffield's Don Valley Stadium.

The top three men and women athletes from this year will now go on to face previous years' winners.

Javine's efforts raised money for the charity Jeans for Genes, which helps children with genetic disorders, while Jade supported HIV and Aids charity Body and Soul.
